2009 Winter Season Tennis Scores
(winter solstice to spring equinox)
These scores really don't have anything to
do with Spectrum's business - they are the scores of
friendly matches played between Don and John in an attempt
to stay reasonably fit. The season winner earns a lunch at
the local Chinese buffet.

18 John 6-4 6-7(7-3)
6-2 Match
time: 2:45 |
| John had the power edge in today's
windy match, though Don stayed with him for two long
sets. But Don ran out of gas in the third
after John got up two early breaks, allowing him to
toy with Don while hitting the ball even harder. (Commentary by

10 Don 6-4 2-6 6-4 Match
time: 2:25 |
| Don comes away w/ a much needed win
on this beautiful 75 degree pre-spring day. The 1st
set was close w/ several brakes of serve, and many
deuce games. Don was up 2-1 in the 2nd set before
John rolled off 5 games in a row, taking the 2nd set
6-2. The 3rd and deciding set was up for grabs, and
both players fought hard w/ there only being one
break of serve. Both players were playing well,
moving each other around the court. This upcoming
spring season should be very close, and highly
contested. (Commentary by

21 John 4-6 7-6(7-4)
6-3
Match time: 2:30 |
| Don takes the first set in a
breakathon, but John continues to amaze with winners
on the full run, not to mention an inordinate number
of net cord winners. Don ran out of energy as
John moved him around side to side and in and out... (Commentary by

17 John 6-2 6-7(7-2)
7-5
Match time: 2:25 |
| John had an easy first set, but
things got complicated in the second. Both
players held their first service game, followed by
ten straight breaks. Don ran away with the
tiebreaker and had two match points at 5-3, but
couldn't close it out as John came up with flat out
running winners from all corners of the court. (Commentary by

9 Don 5-7 6-3 6-1
Match time: 2:30 |
| Don gets on the board w/ a decisive
win today. He was up 4-2 in the 1st set, before John
stormed back to take the set away from him 7-5. The
second set was tough-fought until mid set, when John
hit the wall. Don won 5 straight games from 4-3 in
the second, and almost achieved the coveted VB of 6
consecutive games, but John thwarted his efforts.
Unfortunately for John, there was no more in the
tank, and no more power bars in the bag, as Don wins
the 3rd set 6-1. (Commentary by

4 John 7-5 2-6 7-6(7-3)
Match time: 3:05
 |
| John hangs on to win in a third set
tiebreaker. Don had a two break lead (5-2) in
the first set but John saved double set point at 5-3
and again at 5-4, winning 5 straight games to take
the set. Don won the second set easily.
John jumped up 5-0 in the third, but then Don won 5
straight to even it at 5-5. John saved more
than Don for the tiebreaker... (Commentary by Don) |

27 John 6-3 6-4 Match time: 2:05 |
| John starts the news season with
another win on a windy day. Both sets were
competitive, with long points and multiple deuce

points) in the last game before John closed the
door. (Commentary by Don) |
