If you’re not already familiar with the Dunning-Kruger Effect, here’s a summary: Typically, when a person first learns a few basic facts about some field or issue, they tend to be overconfident in their understanding, quickly ascending to the peak of Mt. Stupid. As they continue gaining knowledge most people begin to realize how little they actually know (let alone understand), so confidence in themselves eventually falls into the valley of Despair. If they continue acquiring knowledge and experience, they make their way up the Slope of Enlightenment, eventually reaching the Plateau of Sustainability when they’ve finally accumulated Guru-like levels of knowledge and experience.
On the other hand, the Trump-effect curve (so far) seems to be near infinite confidence with little to no knowledge, understanding, or ability to learn or understand anything he doesn’t already think…
